Pumpkin Patch

Last weekend with Mom, Dad, Nana and Pop Pop Black in toe, Cole visited his first pumpkin patch. Now keep in mind... this is an LA pumpkin patch which doubles as a large parking lot covered with straw and hundreds of pumpkins. Throw in a couple haggard looking animals (so sad) to make up a petting zoo and there you have it.. a scene right out of "It's a Ghetto Style Halloween Charlie Brown". But ghetto or not, it was a real...ish pumpkin patch and we enjoyed our short stay.

Below is a video which chronicles his first interaction with large orange colored vegetables.

Stay tuned for entries featuring the Harvest Festival at Cole's school, a pumpkin carving party and Cole's first Halloween.

4 Months Old

4 Months of livin' will wear ya out

Cole is 4 months old today. He keeps amazing his parents with his easy temperament, happy smiles that go from ear to ear and ability to continue to sleep through the night. He started off his fourth month weighing in at 14 lbs. 5 oz and measured 25.5 inches long (we’ll see what amazing growth took place at his doctor visit next week).

Cole started “school” full time when mom went back to work a few weeks ago. It took him no time at all to acclimate to his new full-time routine away from home (mom, on the other hand, needed a bit more time to adjust than Cole did!). His new environment is warm and inviting and his teachers and caregivers are loving and patient with all the children. He enjoys the morning commute in with dad and home with mom in the evenings. He is quite the trooper in the car and puts up with the L.A. traffic with the best of ‘em. He spends some of the ride catching Z’s, looking out the window or nibbling on his hands. Occasionally, he’ll show his fussiness – mostly when traffic is especially bad and the car is at a standstill - expressing himself outwardly the way mom and dad feel inside.

Cole has begun rolling over although it doesn’t seem to be a daily activity at this point. Gravity got the best of him a few times, but it there is no doubt it is a new skill he will soon master. He also continues to fill the house with the best sound his parents can think of… his laughter. Engage Cole in a game of peak-a-boo and be prepared for that contagious giggle to make you laugh too! Cole seems to soak in the world around him and takes pleasure in all of his observations. Overall, he is a wonderful and happy baby who brings his mom and dad pure joy every day!

Here's a shot from this morning

And a look back at the past 4 months

Cole has some great clothes... too bad he is growing like a weed and is blazing through outfits very quickly.

Here he is showing off some of his fall fashions.

First Day of School

As mentioned in the previous post, Mom went back to work this past week and therefore Cole started his "school" (read "Sony Child Development Center"... read "Day Care") full time. Cole had gone in for several half day visits but this was the real deal... full days.

With that said... Cole had a wonderful first week. He enjoyed spending time with his primary teacher Filo and getting to know all the other kids in his room. He spent time taking in his new surroundings and playing with a great number of new toys.

Cole has also adjusted to his hour commute each way. He will strike up a conversation with Dad (to school) or Mom (going home) before drifting off for a quick nap before / after a fun filled day.

Below is a video of his first morning and some pictures with Filo.

A Day in the Life

Last week marked Mom and Cole's last week at home together. In the days leading up to Mom's return to work and Cole's daily visits to his new school, the little man kept us entertained as he generated some true highlights and "turned" a big corner to mark this transition in his life.

Luckily for us, we were able to catch these moments on video.

Intro to Heartache

Cole and his Pops were able to spend Saturday and Sunday in the same fashion as thousands of other fathers and sons across this great land... they took in a couple ball games. The San Diego Padres were playing in the MLB playoffs for the second year in a row and JD decided this would be a good time to introduce Cole to the game of baseball.

Saturday morning was happily spent watching the Padres beat the St Louis Cardinals to stave off elimination and live to play another day.

Sunday eve allowed father and son to take in another big game. Now, time will only tell if Cole turns out to be a sports fan or a baseball fan for that matter, but Dad figured there is no harm in pointing the boy in the right direction (and everyone knows that pushing the child to be a Royals fan can be considered child abuse).

Dad... after the game

Yes, the Padres lost and are out of the playoffs and luckily Cole went to bed while the game was still tied so he can have dreams of championships still to come.

There's always next year.... plus College Hoops starts in a month!!!

Tummy Time - Take 2

Tummy time is an acquired taste... Cole has never been wild about it but recently, as he becomes stronger, and is coming close to mastering the art of the "head lift" he is much more tolerant of his tummy time.

It has been a while since we last saw Cole exploring Tummy Time so here are some recent shots as Cole spends time on his favorite Tummy Time blanket exploring the area around him.

New and exciting happenings being caught on video... coming soon.

Not always peaches and cream

Cole, just like all people, has good days and bad days. He can go from happy and smiley to a the middle of a meltdown in an instant. We have, however, found consistencies to Cole's crying... hunger and being tired. He is quick to let us know whenever his tummy is grumbling or when it is fighting off some sleepy time.

Here are a few shots of the master as he fights off sleep...

and then the peaceful end result.

We have our hands full but this young man continues to make us smile everyday!!
